| Ko Tao | ko tao for three weeks? Posted: Sat March 19, 2005 04:45 PM UTC
hi, we are thinking of spending three weeks in koh tao, the objective being to stay in one place and really chill. So far, we are thinking of sensi paradise. My question is, what is the best type of hut to go for in sensi? Has anyone stayed there? We are not too worried about cost, but are not sure of the difference between all the two person bungaloes. Also, is it a good place? Are there nicer places on koh tao to relax for three weeks? Given that we are not that fussed about diving (but are keen on snorkelling), is it a bad idea to come to koh tao in the first place?
thanks very much for any advice. |

Hi,
Koh Tao is a great place but, 3 weeks may be too long to stay on this small island.

I don't think koh Tao's the best place if you want to laze around for 3 weeks.
If you're not doing any diving, you may quickly over stay your welcome at some huts. They would rather accomodate people who are taking diving courses. However, If you're there during low season, this shouldn't be a problem. Alternatively, I recomend Koh Phangan. If you just want to chill out, stick to the North West side. I think Hat Yao is the best beach to stay at. Plus there's more stuff to do on the Island. Also, Samui's close if you want to take a day trip.

thanks for the tips, we will look at Phangan also. I'm actually looking for a nice spot with quality accomodation where I can do some work writing and just settle after a lot of travelling (for me). Availability of yoga would be a bonus too.

I'm not sure about yoga. But if you stick to the North West (North of Tong Sala) side of the Island, the beaches should be pretty quite.
However, chances are that you'll come across Full Moon night. Hat Rin on the southern tip of the island holds the biggest beach party in the world! 5000 to 10 000 people crammed on one beach. I think it's difficult to avoid any Full Moon Party overflow, beit on Tao, Phangan or Samui. I stayed at Hat Yao on the west side of Phangan a couple days before the party and the beach was still relatively deserted. Although, I haven't been there on full moon night. I paid 150 baht for my bungalow(attached bathroom and fan). If I was staying longer, I probably would have got something with Air Conditionning. If you want some higher class bungalows, you could always check it out on the net. They have a couple websites for accomodations (or lonely planet is always good too). Again, just stick to the west side and you'll be fine. Don't forget to mention that you are staying for 3 weeks. You'll be able to get a good discount on your bungalow (no matter where you are staying).
