Las Alpujarras How to get there
Posted: Thu March 17, 2005 08:05 PM UTC
Hi everyone!

I will be travelling to spain in May and I definiltey want to stop in the Alpujarras. Do you all think that a day trip will be enough? Also, are there any buses that can take us there from Granada. What do you all think would be the best way to get there?

Thank you all for your help. I'm trying to finalize my trip to Europe and I need this information before I book my hotel in Granada. Thanks again for your time!

Happy Travels

You will love the trip! I used a car, but I think I've heard about buses that go through Las Alpujarras. If you can, however, I'd suggest a car. I have a few pages on the area, so stop by and take a look. I loved the visits.

A day should be plenty of time and it's well worth it.

Carla -

Here's the bus line that serves the area: http://www.alsinagraells.es/cgi-bin/agsur/media.pl?ref=in-00

Trevelez is the highest town in Spain and I gather it's a real mountain town. Capiliera, Bubion and Pampaneira are supposed to be interesting and seem close enough together that you could walk between them. There are also walks in the woods from most of the towns.

I'm going to be cycling there in late April, but might take the bus out from Granada and then ride downhill! we'll see

Will a day trip be long enough? That depends upon whether you REALLY want to see the area, or just scratch the surface!
I bought a house here 5 years ago and visit 3 - 4 times a year, staying 1-2 weeks at a time, and I STILL wouldn't presume to say that I KNOW the area.
Should you do - ABSOLUTELY - no mater if is is only a day trip!
How to go? By car! While buses DO run, they are slow and stop very frequently, so you won't see so much!
Please do try to visit other areas than just the High Alpujarra, there is a middle and lower area too (sometimes referred to as East or West Alpujarra)
No matter how you go, or for how long, I know you will love it!
