Anyone been there? Am looking for a new cultural experience. Interested in gemstones, caste system, astrology and everything that makes up the lfe. Any good books to read would also be helpful.

Yes, have been there a couple of times, and love it. Notable mainly for its romantic old fortress, and for the Mararajah's 1920s palace, now a 5-star hotel (the Umaid Bhavan). But I recommend that you stay at the older, more atmospheric Ajit Bhavan, belonging to the present Maharajah (Babji)'s uncle. Very good food, and folk music/dance, in the evenings.
