Punta del Este in September

My fiancé and I are going to Punta del Este from September 4th to the 18th for our honeymoon! We have read fabulous things about this area during its summer months, but nothing about the Spring. What will the temperature be like during this time? Will we be able to hang out on the beach and swim? If it will be too cool to enjoy the water, what else can we do around the city? What cities would you recommend for day trips? Thanks in advance for your help.

The weather will still be somehow cold with temperatures around 60ªF. No swimming at the beach for sure. There is no much to do off season as the city will be very quiet. However, I would recommend to visit José Ignacio (a must) which is 20 miles east. You can make a day trip to Montevideo. If you´re more adventerous go further east to Cabo Polonio and Punta del Diablo, an amazing but quite isolated fishermen village. Visit my PDE pages for more info.
