I would have said the show, "De La Guarda," but it looks like they have moved on to Europe now. sigh Amazing show.

But really... you just have to walk and walk and walk and just experience the city. The subway was great way to get around. Find a local to take you clubbing.

Ok l am a shopper. Woodbury Common for oh so cheap clothes. The Plaza Hotel for a look... 5th Avenue for Tiffneys and the Cathedral so beautiful inside. A taxi ride...a walk around central park.. a takeway for the experience of the millions of questions as to what you want on your sandwich... . a bus trip to harlem for a truly wonderful experience and another side of life..grand central station for the couches...enjoy its such a wonderful experience. I'm going back next year.

Walk around Greenwich Village. watch the street basketball games. See the crazy people. The bars there are fun at night ( or day too )

Head down to Ground zero and have a look around. It's amazing how much progress is being made in fixing it up

Staten Island ferry is a cheap way to take a boat trip. Just come back on the same ferry.
As you pass the Statue of Liberty everybody goes to that side and the boat lists to the side, which always freaked me out a little.

Times Square is fun, just to see the spectacle. It used to be all porn and peep shows till Guiliani cleaned up the city and now it's nice.

David Letterman show is fun. Try to get standby tickets. Have a sandwich at Hello Deli next door, even if you don't get in to the show ( which is tough if you don't already have ticekts)

Experiencing Harlem and Harlem Jazz. Great off the beaten path tip someone told me about: Sunday night jazz jam with Seleno Clarke at American Legion #398 with a Soul Food buffet.

I forgot, we LOVE to eat at Giambelli50 restaurant on 50th street a few blocks west of Park

Call and ask if "juigi" is making meatballs.
These are little free appetizers, and Luigi makes them. Nobody else there does.

anyway, they are great.
The Pope ate all his meals there the last time he was in New York City, and old Mr Giambelli will come around and give you a card with a pic of the pope on it.

Also, Mr Giambelli just bought the world's largest truffle at an auction, so I expect to have something with truffles featured.
We always eat there when we're in NYC. It's good stuff! ( if kind of "old school" )

At least one Broadway or Off-Broadway show. Walk down Madison Avenue from 57th to about 80th.. windowshop. Take the boat ride to the Statue of Liberty.. or the ride around the island if the weather is nice. For me, I can't leave without visiting my 97 year old aunt, but you can do lots of other things. <g>

Hi Cat,
You'll be able to get a better feel for the City if you would tell us when you're coming and for how long. It makes a big difference.
You're always welcome here.
Happy travels,
Irv

It depends on what your interests are, but I wouldn't forget a walk through SOHO either--being very chic and trendy. A walk on Spring Street and Prince Street between Broadway and West Broadway coupled with a walk down Broadway would provide some very varied clothes shopping and dining experiences.

Well dear cat, just 2 weeks ago I lost my NYC virginity ;) And the icing on the cake for me, after I've drifted around for 5 days, checking the monument, pubs, art galleries etc.. Was to go and see a Broadway show! I've been to theater before, but that was something else. I saw Hairspray at the Neil Simon Theatre the show is great plus I got good seats for only 60$ at http://www.broadwaybox.com/default.aspx?s=124 . Enjoy your time in the Big Apple :)

Hi,

New York Magazine's most recent edition highlighted the "Best of NY". Shopping, restaurants, etc. You might view it online at:
www.newyorkmetro.com/urban/guides/bestofny/

Also, The New York Pass is $49 and gives you one day admission to over 40 great attractions for one price. Go to www.newyorkpass.com or call 877-714-1999. Also
available at Planet Hollywood 45th & Broadway.

Little Italy and Chinatown are fun eating spots. If you need subway info let me know.
