I might be going to China over the summer for grad school and I was wondering what the prizes of things are. What can I buy for a dollar? For five dollars? etc. What are some nice things that I can buy for myself and the people at home?

lots of things: from keychains to clothes. Just bargain: whatever they tell you is 2-3 times more from actual price! You can buy as presents bags, purses, paintings, cups, jewelleries (you can have simple jwlr made: like set of earings for 8-10RMB = 1USd and a necklace for 5 RMB = 0.6USD)...
