Hi There
We're (4 friends)visiting Riga on 21st April for a 3/4 days. I'm looking at booking a hotel in the city, and the Radisson appears to pretty good. Does anyone in the virtual-tourist community have any view on this hotel? Is it in a good location i.e close to Bars/clubs etc ?? Someone also mentioned staying in a district called Jirmala.....woud this be a better option for us? All thoughts welcome. Thanks. Regards, Dee |

First regarding Jurmala -- that's the coastal are near Riga and is about 30 to 45 minutes away (by minibus) from Riga centre.
I've not stayed at the Radisson -- I've used the Forums Hotel a couple of times and it was just fine -- location is between the train/bus stations and the old town.

The Radisson is a pretty good hotel, but, if you are interested in Riga nightlife, you might want to be located in the middle of Vecriga (Old Town). The Hotel De Rome (www.derome.lv), Grand Palace Hotel (www.schlossle-hotels.com), or the Hotel Ainavas (www.ainavas.lv) are all excellent and located closer to the action. My personal favorite is the Ainavas, a very small (21 rooms) hotel which takes a very personal interest in its guests.
Jurmala is a beach resort and April is a bit early for the beach crowd.

Hello!
If you want to stay in the Old Town, which of course is very comfortable if you are up for the night life, then "Radi un draugi" is real value for the money (www.draugi.lv). Ainavas (www.ainavas.lv)is also nice and location is good. radisson is on the opposite side of the river, right near the bridge, so by taxi it takes some 5 minutes from the Old Town, there is no night club inside of the hotel, just restaurant and casino, if I remember right :)"Konventa Seta" is another one ok in the old town (www.konventa.lv. From upmarket - Hotel grand palace. Enjoy your stay! I.
