Hi! My family will be visitng Lund from mid-June to mid-July. 4 kids from 14 down to 4 years old. I've looked at your recommendations and they all look fascinating -- to ME! Are there things that can keep my kids captivated while we are there and not miss their friends at home too much? The runes will be cool. I'm hoping to find music lessons, swimming, learning swedish language, food, culture, etc. during the week. On the weekends when my husband does not have to work we hope to see other parts of europe...a trip to the arctic circle and seeing some icebergs would be unique! And of course travelling across the bridge to Copenhagen and seeing the mermaid! As you can see, we are not really interested in night life and shopping. We have never been to this part of the world and I'd like to make it 4 exciting and memorable weeks for my kids...who are busy complaining about having to go! Many Thanks!

Hi, you can check out the page erabler just posted. I also have a Skåne page where I have a travelogue called Skåne with children as I live here and have a six-year-old. It has typical excursion tips around the province with kids.

I was in Lund again today as the weather was gorgeous. We've strolled through the hothouses at the botanical gardens which she enjoyed. Earlier visits, she has enjoyed the Kulturen Open Air Museum that I'm sure you've seen since you've browsed our Lund pages. Another great thing to do outside Lund is to visit the Romeleåsen ridge with its paths and great views. I would also take the opportunity to visit Lomma at the coast, with its miles of beaches.

Local train to Malmö takes only 20 minutes and here we have the Folkets Park amusement park which is only tiny compared to the ones in Gothenburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen, but still OK. Another half hour takes you to Copenhagen where the possibilities are endless (although the Mermaid is a tourist trap but I guess she has to be seen). Again, see children's travelogue.

Back in Sweden...Finally, THE great area in the province when you have children is the area between Ystad and Simrishamn which I hope you can give a weekend to. There you have the best beaches in the province and also the Glimmingehus medieval fortress, childrens farm and lots more.

As for trips around the rest of Scandinavia, don't miss Stockholm :) I am not a local down here and I have to say this province isn't typically Swedish. More agriculture and less forests and lakes...the architecture is also more Danish (since it was Danish in medieval days). Very nice, but go north to discover Sweden :)

There are plenty to do in and around Lund. In Lund: The botanical gardens, Kulturen, the church ruins, he cathedral. All of which you can bring your kids. Malmö is a bigger town, and not at all far away (20 min). Here you have Malmö castle with surrounding museums. All suitable for kids. You can swim in the ocean from Ribban.

Copenhagen is not far away. In fact it's close enough to go several days a week. There are the atractions Bakken, Tivoli, Zoo, Guiness Museum of records and Ripley believe it or not, among other things.

As for the artic circle: Its almost 1200 km away just to reach it. Really no point on being on the artic circle, you have to be north of it to see the midnight sun and aurora borealis, so it's a really long way. Icebergs: Wrong time of year, wrong place, Sorry.

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions and information. I've been surfing the web during my spare time as we finish the school year here and prepare to leave for Sweden soon. I hope to make it to Glimmenhus for my boys who are very interested in knights! My older kids will be going to a week of scouting camp (skogsruj) and then in late July go to fri:05 in Norway. I am very excited for them, and for our adventure!
