Flights by helvetic are so ex! What's the cheapest way to get to Florence? And is Florence a good place to 'base' ourselves, from which we will explore rest of italy. We only have about 4 days in Florence. TIA!

The rest of Italy seems to be a little general. Do you plan to visit Pisa / Rome / Venice ? Which one ? Pisa is 1 hour away, but the rest is quite a distance . 4 days is not enough for Florence itself :-)

I have heard that it is not safe to drive through Tuscany, esp. in an expensive car. It is very likely to get stolen. Is this true? We were also planning to drive from Zurich to Tuscany. Thanks.

Any reason why you using florence as base? cos that's quite unusual. I tot 4 days a little long since Florence city is a very small place, unless you are travelling out to Tuscany most of the time. Rome may take up more time since it has a lot more to see.
