| St. John | July in St. John? Posted: Thu March 3, 2005 06:36 PM UTC
We are planning a July getaway, and are looking at Cruz View condos on St. John. They seem reasonable in price. Any drawbacks anyone knows of? Also, I've read some mosquito warnings. Is that just away from the beach areas, or are they "everywhere"? Thanks...

You will have a great time in St. John. The mosquitos will not ruin your time there. Bring some repellent with DEET. Stop by the grocers and pick up something like yard guard if you have a problem at your condo. The mosquitos are an isolated problem. You will most likely only run into them while hiking or perhaps on the beach. The donkeys are a bigger pest than the mosquitos ;)
July will be warm during the day. Nights will still be pleasant. You will be able to survive the heat if you use a little common sense. During the hot daylight hours you can find cool temps in the hills, in the shade on the beach and in the water. In July you will get rained on at least once a day, enjoy it. The rains are usually showers and do not last long. Use sunscreen and bring or buy a hat and loose clothing. Enjoy your trip. I envy you.

I didn't see those condo's while there but I did pull them up on the web after you posted. Looks like a nice place for a decent price. We didn't get up the hill much while in Cruz Bay. Most of our time there was either passing through or at the bottom of the hill in the port area. If you are looking for something to compare them against give these people a try; VIVA vacations at http://www.vivacations.com/. They were nice and extremely helpful with our house and car rental. Relax, you will enjoy your St. John experience. If you allow, it can be the most relaxing place you will ever visit.

I stayed at Cruz Views in February - Unit #10 was great! I highly recommend that one if you can get it. Cruz Views is very close to home but the walk home is very steep so taxi or a car rental is recommended. Cars are worth it because the beauty of the island is the scenery and the beached so you need to get out and explore. Enjoy!

You'll be fine. Maybe some quick showers that pass but other than that you'll be ok. Cruz Views is on a very steep hill so walking up id not fun after a few Bushwackers!!
I love St. John. I got married there and went back for my 1-year anniversary.
