Schloss Neuschwanstein Tickets for Schloß Neuschwanstein
Posted: Thu September 12, 2002 07:50 PM UTC
Dear all,
I’ve heard that tickets for admission to the castle can only be purchased somewhere down in Schwangau. Does this mean there’s no ticket box at the entrance to the Schloß? If so, where exactly is the ticket box in Schwangau?
Danke schön!

The ticket box is at the parking lot for Neuschwanstein (few minutes drive from Schwangau). approx. 30 min. walk from the schloss. (Few minutes drive from Schwangau). You can also go by minibus or horse wagon. The schloss can only be entered with guided tour, which I found going rather fast through the schloss.

I also found the tour pretty quick but it was well worth it for me. I had ALWAYS wanted to go there and it was like a dream come true. :)

Also, it's a nice walk over the huge bridge that runs over the valley not far away...

You should take the tour of Linderhof (Ludwigs residence just down the road toward Garmish) and HohenSchwangau (where he grew up) also. Those two are much more indicative of his life style--There is also his Palace on Lake Chiemsee, where he drowned/was killed. Neuschwanstein was not completed and lived in, which is why it is mostly unfurnished, the wood carvings and view are the main attractions--plus it is the castel everyone talks about. I have a fuzzy (thanks VT 8-( map on my Augsburg page if you want to see the area.

You surely mean Mary's Bridge or Marienbrücke. Heard of it, definitely on my list... Thank you.

Thank you too, Robert. Unfortunately I only have one day to spend out of Munich, so I think I'll restrict myself to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, as they are close to each other.
Anyway, thank you all, but have to go now. It's half eleven here in the UK and I'm off to Munich tomorrow... Thanks again everyone!

Rob,
Ludwig wasn't killed at lake Chiemsee but at Lake Starnberg south of Munich. Ludwig had been brought to Castle Berg at Lake Starnberg by a commision that had declared he had paranoia .....to dethrone him.
On his second day there he took a walk around the lake with Dr. Gudden from which they never returned. It is still not known whether he committed suicide or was killed.
