Parque Nacional do Iguaçu Hike in the park and then off to Rio
Posted: Tue March 1, 2005 01:39 AM UTC
Hello Participants
I plan to go to Iguacu for a coupla days (perhaps 3 days altogether) mostly to see the falls. Would appreciate if anyone has something to say from their experince on..

1. From Argentinian side of the park how easy is the hike on to Brazilian side and how long? What is the good way to cross the border when I am with backpack?

2. From Brazilian side how frequent are the buses to Rio? Are they comfortable?

Any other related comment would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time!

Hi there, I went to The Argentinian side 3 times.
It is a fantastic experience.
I advise you to get a 2 day pass. I think the 2nd cosecutive day is half price. But you have to get your pass stamped by the rangers at the park.
I advise you to go down the Macau Trail on the Argentinian side. There are some falls at the end of the trail that you can swim under.

Now for crossing the border.
I had 2 backpacks. The buses leave the Argentinian side (from the Bus Terminal)quite frequently during the day. The first bus is at about 8.30am.
The trip takes about 40 minutes and is not too expensive. When you get to the border, the travellers have to allight to do the immigration process. The locals stay on the bus and continue on their journey. Be careful not to leave anything on the bus.
Once the immigration process is complete you wave down the next bus coming through and board it for the remainder of the journey using your original ticket. Most buses go to the Bus Terminal where everyone leaves the bus.

I did not take the bus to Rio but I believe it is a long time to sit on a bus.
It might be good to break ther journey up by getting off somewhere along the way for a day or two.
There is an airport on the Brazillian side with frequent domestic flights for all over Brazil

Enjoy !!

Thanks for a handy guide Christian. I just found out you have to come all way round to the Brazilian side. So you have to buy two differen tickets for the tow differnt sides, right?
