Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Parque Nacional do Iguaçu Foz city
Posted: Mon February 28, 2005 06:16 PM UTC
1) Is it worth staying in the city itself as opposed to nearer the falls.
2) Is it easier to get buses from the city centre or are their buses from most hotels?
3)Can anyone recommend any good 4* hotels? (these seem to be in our price range)
4) is there anything to do at night in Foz?

(sorry i know i have asked this before)

I personally think it's better to stay near the falls rather than in the city. Foz doesn't have an awful lot to do other than shopping, which can easily be accomplished by taking a bus in to town. On the other hand there is quite a lot to do in and around the national park, e.g. white water rafting, rapelling, tree climbing, canoeing, bird park. Also the better hotels are all on the road to the falls, as that is where most tourists want to stay. Buses to and from Foz are regular and cheap, if the hotels don't offer a shuttle service (I'm not sure if they do).

I would definitely recommend the Tropical das Cataratas hotel (http://www.tropicalhotel.com.br - site not in English yet), which is a lovely colonial style hotel at the falls. I think it's a 4 star, but it may be a bit more expensive than other 4 star hotels because of it's stunning location. Another hotel that is very pleasant, but probably a lot cheaper, is the San Martin Hotel (http://www.hotelsanmartin.com.br), which is extremely close to the entrance of the national park. I'm afraid I can't recommend any hotels in the city itself, as I've never been in any of them. There are quite a lot to chose from though.

Foz is a small Brazilian city, so night life could be better, but there are bars and restaurants to go to. My personal favourites are restaurant Armazem and Bar Capitao. One block along from Bar Capitao is Agencia Tass, which is a nightclub open until morning. Another fun thing to do at night is to go to the casino in Argentina. You can have a fantastic meal there (at quite reasonable cost) and gamble all night if you fancy. You can get get a taxi there for about R$30 (about £6). If you fancy doing something more touristy there is a typical Brazilian restaurant called Churrascaria Rafain which has a show. The food is excellent, and the show is quite good fun, though slightly cheesy in places. Well worth seeing though if only for the capoeira and the guy doing tricks with whips.

I hope this helps!

I would definitely NOT stay at the Tropical das Cataratas.

It's completely overpriced and not at all worth it.

Read my description of for more info.....
