We will be at hosteria las torres at TDP partk for 4 days in early April.. 1. Is the food any good there? Has anyone tried the box lunches or should we pack food in from our drive from puntas arenas? We'll have a car, should we eat anywhere else in the park?
2. Do we need to pack our winter clothes? Does the sun ever shine there? We're having second thoughts about spending 4 days in the park ... is it too long? Thanks for any help. |

The food it is good in hosteria las torres. To note it is not so easy to go and eat other places on the park, you have to go to eat to other hosterias.
Just be aware that the travel from punta arenas to puerto natales by bus are 3 hours and from puerto Natales to torres del paine will be 2:30 more of drive. You can eat at puerto natales there are good restaurant (you can check my Puerto natales page) Regarding the weather, yes the sun shine......you just need to by lucky. You never know with the weather you can have the 4 season in a same day ja ja ja i know it is crazy i will pack rain coat, and a good winter coat. Depending on what you want to do 4 days can be ok or to short. There are many activities on park, trekking to the base of the Torres del paine (one day), trekking to the horns of the Paine (one day), Glaciar Grey (half day), Around the park on car (1 day or 2). hope that help Regards Kelly

April is autumn in the Southern hemisphere, it may also rain . But it's still a good moment to go to Patagonia. The food is all right, you don't need to take other than some snacks with you. Better that you do stay for 4 days, in case there are some cloudy days. The views are magnificent, worth waiting for the sun...!

Hello,
The choices for foodstuff in the park are very limited, so you might want to buy some basic sandwich ingredients and a few bottles of drinking water in Punta Arenas or when passing through Puerto Natales; this way you will have the option to eat whenever you feel like, without worrying about the price or the availability of the food. The weather in TDB is notoriously changeable, but in April normally it should not be very cold; on contrary, you might face some beautiful sunny days. Keep with you 2-3 layers that you can put on each other, the upper being a wind coat, and also a sun blocking lotion. As about the length of your visit there, it depends very much on how much do you want to walk. In my opinion, 4 days should be perfectly OK. I met people who spent there 2 and 3 weeks, but they took long hikes. Enjoy! Marius

Hello,
I suggested you to buy in advance a few bottles of drinking water, but I forgot to mention that you can get there also very nice wine, and also not expensive. Enjoy! Marius

I guess it all depends on your budget, and how much you want to carry with you into the park. The water from the tap, or out of any of the rivers is the cleanest you will ever have, so there is no urgent need to carry water with you. The food is pretty good, but a bit pricy. I would bring a few snacks (they are expensive in the park) and stuff to prepare your own sandwiches, if you don't want to pay for the box lunch (which by the way is good, and very complete).
I would definetely go for four days, it's absolutely amazing there! Enjoy Selma
