A friend and I will be in Montevideo for 4 days in the middle of March after being in Buenos Aires for several days. What are some of the sights we shold not miss in Montevideo. We are having difficulty finding travel guides on Montevideo, and what we have found are in the Buenos Aires travel guides. Thank you for your advice.

My wife enjoyed our stay in Montevideo two years ago. We would suggest that you visit the market/restaurant area in the old harbor. Also take in a Tango show at a local club. It is said that the tango in Montevideo is tru to tradition more than in Buenos Aires.
Mostly Montevidewo is a town to take in old colonial architecture, good food and stroll by the water's edge.
There is a good whole day bus tour to Uruguay's best artists home, you may want to check that out.

Hi!

Do not miss Ciudad Vieja (the ancient district), where you will find historical places and a lot of restaurants; nightlife is THERE all week long. The coast is very nice, and you can visit districts like, Punta Carretas, Pocitos, Punta Gorda or Carrasco. El Cerro (the hill) is a nice place as well, where you can visit a fortress-museum and enjoy beautiful sights.

Check the Montevideo travel guide here on VT to have more info.
