Boppard Day trip to Boppard
Posted: Fri February 25, 2005 01:37 AM UTC
WeI am thinking of taking a day trip by train to Boppard from Frankfurt in July. Will we have time to cruise from Boppard and St Goar and return on the Rhine and also take the chairlift ride? Is the chairlift far from the railway station?

Hm...the chairlift isn't exactly next to the station but then again Boppard is only a small town so it's not too far.

My suggestion is that you take the train to Boppard, hit the cable car and then return by boat to the lovely town of Bacharach. Boppard-Bacharach is the loveliest part of the Rhine too, taking in the Loreley bend etc. St Goar is in my opinion vastly overrated with coach parties and tourist shops.

Which chairlift?
Boppard?

Seems to be 10 minutes walk from the railway station direction Koblenz (downstream).

There is one in Assmannshausen and in Rüdesheim each.

and here a map showing both. One labeled Sesselbahn (chairlift), the other Kabinenbahn (cabinlift).

It's unlikely very far anywhere. These towns are small and only stretched along the Rhine (into the other direction there is no place anyway).
The boats downstream is much faster than upstream. There are railway lines on both sides of the river. You can even buy the railway and boat ticket at bigger railway station. You even will get a discount of 20% (for arriving by train) this way.

Yes the chairlift at Rüdesheim is nice. Tiny cars just above the vineyards (see pictures on my page)!

Dear Friends

you will find a chairlift directly in Boppard !!! Its only 5 Minuters to go from the trainstation. You will find a detailed map in the trainstation of boppard.
The chairlift goes nearly 20 minutes along the river rhine - its absolutly great. I am living only 30 km far from Boppard and i know my home verry well, so listen: If you use the chairlift, use it only one-way, and go down by a arround 40 minutes walking, because in this walkingway you will have a great sigthseeing tour i mean you will see the hole Rhinetal. Enjoi it have fun and welcome in germany ! (surly there are a lot of Chairlift, specialy on the other side of this river, but you will need the hole day to go to assmanshausenfor exampl and back to boppard - and the chairlift in boppard are more, lets say romantic
