Hi,
Are traveller checks widely accepted in Texas?. I am from Spain and I am sure that traveller checks are not used here at all. Thanks |

Traveler checks are accepted in most states as long as they are AMEX checks. As in Europe, the most widely accepted methods to obtain cash and pay for goods and services are ATM and credit cards.

many hotels and rental car companiies and other bussiness will not except them. and i am not sure that money exchange places will either. most banks will exchange them. but most banks are closed on the week end. many hotels will give you cash and charge it to your hotel bill as a tour or something like that if you have a credit card.. do not have to pay atm fee that way.

Basically it depends on the establishment... large companies, hotels, and restaurant chains will probably accept them. However, the smaller companies will shy away from them and out-of-town checks. As someone mentioned, you can cash them at a bank, or an American Express affiliate.... i'd stick with ATM's and leave those for emergencies.
suerte, Fernando PS: let me know when you'll come to Texas... i'm in San Antonio right now until March.

We in Texas use (1) Visa and MasterCard (credit cards), (2) American Express (credit cards), (3) other credit cards (like DIners, etc.), and (4) cash.
I imagine that any exchange (cambio) will take traveler's checks as will many hotels that cater to international travelers. However, I imagine that many really local places will be doubtful of accepting them. Do what the other Vters said: bring your credit card(s), ATM card, and some cash (as long as your cards are accepted here). ¡Buen viaje! Bill
