Pulau Pangkor Harrassment at Pangkor?
Posted: Sun February 20, 2005 07:50 PM UTC
Hi there,
I'm planning a trip to Malaisia in May and want to go to Pangkor for a week. Now I've heard and read of stories about harrassment of foreign women by the local people. Can anyone comment on that?

Hi,

We live near Pangkor and run a website on pangkor (pulau-pangkor.com, which may help you a bit in your search for info on Pangkor). As a foreigner (I am Dutch) and a man I have never experienced problems. The women I met, never experienced problems at Pangkor.

Having said that, you may get harrassed by the taxi drivers in Pangkor. It's not because you're a woman, they do that with anyone they think is new to the city.

Pangkor is a beautiful little island and you will enjoy your stay here very much without harrasments. I promise. More info needed? Check our website and if you want, give us a call through email or phone.

regards

Peter and Eunice

i've been traveled to Pangkor since 1998, and never heard local people do harassment there.Might be, it's happened once in a blue moon. Eventhough i m a man but i really know some beach boys and local well. If you need friend there i will recommend some of my local friends there.
Hope to see you here and WELCOME TO PANGKOR ISLAND!
P/S: Pangkor Island is just like my second home.

I think partly some women are to blame for what you've heard.

Locals say Japanese ladies visit Pangkor with local Malay men. But then that would be irrelevant to you ;)

Don't worry about the taxi drivers :)
