Little Inagua Island RE: scuba diving

Doesn't seem to be alot of forthcoming information, so I'll tell you what I know.
Little Inagua is uninhabited except for wild donkey, goats etc. You'll have to go to Great Inagua to find accomodations and supplies. There is only one small settlement, which is Matthewstown. This is really a one horse town, so to speak. There are only a handful of rooms for rent, mostly in someones home or a small and rustic B&B. Check out Walkines 242) 339-1612 or Mortens Phone: 242-339-1267
Most are NOT air conditioned. The mode of transportation is walking, or you can sometimes borrow a bike from your host. I think there are several local cars for rent.

Check with your proprietor on finding your dive master. He's not very reliable, but very knowledgeble when you find him.

Inagua is know for it's flamingo breeding ground, but you will not be able to enter the National Park without permission and a ranger/guide. This can be arranged for you. Again, it's not a specific time or day, just when they have time to do it. This is a VERY laid back island, which really doesn't cater to tourism. You'll find some interesting folks at the marinas, which are the mainstay of outside life here.

Be aware, that the heat in Inagua can be overbearing, especially since little is air conditioned. The mosquitoes are the size of bumble bees, and are fierce, so bring plenty of 100% deet.

This was a very exhausting trip for me, but well worth it. Diving is amazing if you can hook up with this guy (forgot his name) and make sure you inquire early if you want to see the flamingos. It may take a day or two.

I was there in 2001, so things may have been upgraded since then.

Hope this helps!
