You joined this forum just to ask about marijuana? Now there's priorities for you! A quick search shows that it's considered illegal in Jamaica, so beware: http://www.visitjamaica.com/vacation_themes/spring_break/helpful_tips_for_spring_breakers.aspx

Go to the CO beach, walk to the right until you reach the river, look for the Rasti shell man, all he wants is what you pay at home ...have fun

Thank you for the info. I heard something about that you can also get from the bus driver or the rest stop. I find that a little scary. I don't want to get ourselves or anyone else either. We just want to have fun be free, celebrate and not feel 50. If anyone else have any tips please let me know.
Thanks

Well Mez,it's like this.Every where you go someone is going to offer you some ganj.If you are in the mountains, out of the tourist area you can get it for about $JA.300 for enough for the week.If you are around SS you are going to pay about $25 to $30 us for a quarter ounce.Always ask your bartender or gardener or someone who works at the hotel because you know he won't stiff you because he will be around every day.Good rule of thumb for anything you may need.$25 U.S is $JA>1500.Tell them you will make the deal if they give you some Rizla papers with it.Enjoy Jah's bounty.

Angie,I've never stayed at SS but I stayed in Ochie a few times before at the Pineapple I believe is the name of the place.I got the best bread pudding in the world at a little bakery on the main street next to the open field leading into the veg market,if it is still there.Duns river falls is a must along with the Ruins [a restaurant ]Runaway Caves are good to see and for a romantic evening a ride down the river on rafts with torches.I go mainly to Negril. There is not much to do in Ochie after the third day.Negril has it all but for the first visit to Jamaica an all inclusive gives you a good chance to get the lay of the land so to speak.Negril is 109 miles and about $150 U.S to take a taxi from Ochie and back.So it really isn't feasable to zip down there for a day.But there is always the next time, right?

Hi Barry,
Yes there is always next time. I have a feeling that Jamaica can become addicting. All the websites make it look like paradise! It was quite expensive for all inclusive at SS. We may consider not doing that next time we go to Jamaica. My hubby and I like to be layed back when on vacation, we are not club people, we are more beach people. We live in NYC, so we have plenty of clubs and 5* resturants. Negril may be our next Jamaica vacation. We would like to stay at a place on the beach, near everything. Where do you stay if you don't mind me asking? Is near resturants, beach and shops? Is it expensive?
Thanks for all your tips,
Angie

Well Angie, where we stay may not be for everyone but my buddy and I go every year for two weeks and it costs us $1500.00 Canadian [thats like 8 bucks American isn' it?lol ] each for everything including our airfare out of Detroit return.Keeping in mind we are not big drinkers, maybe 5 beers a day give or take. It's safe and nicely kept.Your right on the beach but noone makes your bed for you,no hibiscus on your pillow. The food here is very good but if you want more variety you just walk in any direction for your favoriye nyam, oops I mean food.Check out their web site @ www.rootsbamboo.com.I know of more places with a few more amenities but I've been staying here 36 times and it's hard to change when I'm happy here.Cabin "C" or "D" is our fav. These rooms have no bathroom,we use the camps but there is some with baths if you prefer for another $15.Fresh fruit to your door every day, patties and coco bread on the beach. What more could you ask for.I just got back a week ago but I am ready to go again. They say Jamaica is the jewel of the Carribean and I believe it.Go and enjoy the Island and it's people Angie..Bye for now and "NO PROBLEM MON"ask any q's you want and I'll try to help. Where better is there a place to turn 50! I have never been to Ocho, but i have been to Mo Bay & Negril several times. (Returning to Negril on 4/17/05). It is always best to ask the staff of where you are staying, it's kind of an unwritten rule. Never give your money up-front, and see what you are buying, prices are ALWAYS negotiable, or possibly barter something, ie: cd's, perfurme, athletic T-shirts, tennis shoes, etc. They are all "farmers" or know someone who is! I am almost 50 myself and have been going to Jamaica for the past 20 years. Negril is my choice of places to stay, it is sooo relaxing. There is a place called Nirvana, and it is! The folks who own it are originally from NY. I have referred many friends there and no one has ever complained except maybe that they have to go home. Irie

but don't buy from the first person, check around first. Don't give money until you see it and then bargain down. Once I got in good with a guy from Ochie, I was getting 1/8th of good stuff for less than 10$. You will be able to get it from someone at the resort but you will want to be descreet and ask a young guy at the bar or something and let him know you want to party Bob Marley style. I would highly recommend getting off the resort a little as that is a great experience because the Jamaican people are great. don't pay over $20 for a bag that will last you all week. Don't buy from a street hustler as they will try to rip you off...buy from a guy that smokes it regularly (that won't be hard to find) because he gets it cheap and then will turn it over to you for cheap and then you can give him a little extra. i told one guy, "look, sell me some for what you pay for it and then I will throw in some extra for you and your trouble to get it". They get it very cheap. If you are close to 9-mile (where Bob Marley grew up) then take a day tour there and hit the museum and they will GIVE you some!

Ocho Rios One of the great things about Jamaica is the ganja as it is such a large part of the culture

so that is a legit question IMO. Since it is "illegal" it is better to go in knowing what the deal it ya know?

Hi,
Thanks for the great info Bucwild. I would think it would be hard to see what you are buying, from a person working on the resort? I don't think they carry it around with them? Or do they? LOL. Is there different grades of it. I have been smoking a long time, and I was hoping to get good stuff there. We are not venturing off the resort this time. Our next vacation in Jamaica, we are hoping to stay at a place on the beach in Negril, that is reasonable. We want to enjoy the culture, people, and food and the ganja, (goes without saying lol)of Jamaica. Since this is our first time in Jamaica we opted for a resort. I think we made a good choice? If you or anyone else has any more info, that would be great.
Angie

Angie,I don't care who the person is,I NEVER give the money up front. When your contact brings it to you,you have no obligation to accept it.Many times they will give you a little to try and sometimes this little bit is all you really need.I've got through my whole vacation on just "samples".Now you may like one persons better than anothers so this is the person to get it from.Always buy very small amounts each time and you won't get stuck with kindling.lol.Once you get there you will meet someone, be it a taxi driver or a security guard at the hotel that you will feel comfortable with and he can provide for you quite safely.Go and don't worry about it because it will find you.Everyone tries to sell it to you and many will give you a sample so tell hubby happy 50th.

Hi Barry,
Thank you, for answering my question. I was concerned because, We didn't want to get ourselves or anyone else in trouble. Could you imagine 2 50 year olds that never got in trouble, get in trouble in Jamaica...Yikes!!!
With all the great info, that you gave, as well as everybody else, except for the people who got mad at me..lol, I feel we will have no problem, mon. Thanks for wishing hubby a happy birthday. :)

Sorry it took so long to reply (coming back to work and the real world has been tough), you might already be in Jamaica but thought I would reply anyways.....to answer your question, yes...many of the guys who work at the resort are in fact carrying it around. Find an employee who smokes and who you feel you can trust, (use your common sense and people skills and you will find a few)and then tell him exactly what you want....my guy went out in town on his break, found two kinds of good stuff and brought it back to my room for me to look at, then I chose a bag and paid him for it and his trouble and proceeded to have a VERY good time chillin'. I would suggest venturing from the resort though, it really is a lot more fun IMO....I met and smoked with some of the coolest people ever....way better than hanging out with dorky tourists all the time that is fo sho!

Barry seemed very familiar with the Ochi area. We have booked at Rooms Ocho Rios and I was wanting to know what local places are recommended, that are not tourist traps. I have been to the island but only to the Runaway Bay area.
Was your birthday excursion successful?
