It looks like I will be travelling to the Punjab in early April to visit friends in Chandigarth... not sure if my flight will arrive in Dehli or Amritsar. what [or how] can i get to chandigarth? is it possible as a mature women travelling alone to visit the Taj Mahal and Veranasi in the 3 weeks that I will have there? any travelling tips for safety etc would be appreciated. namaskar Julie |

Try the following websites for train journeys
http://indianrail.gov.in/ http://www.trainenquiry.com/ I found the lonely planet guide books very useful for travelling in India. They list how to get to your destinations by all modes of travel, from which place and costs. India is a very safe place to travel. enjoy your trip

Probably the best way is to take the train from Delhi to Chandigarh. If I remember correctly, there's a very nice train called the Shatabdi Express that does that route--very comfortable. Check the Indian Railways website (warning, it's NOT easy to use) or get hold of an Indian travel agent. I don't think you can buy tickets online, but they may have made that possible lately.

hi,
the best option to travel from delhi to chandigarh is by shatabdi exp.it`s possible to book online from outside india, although it`s pretty confusing for the first time.the railways have the booking fecilities for the foreigners in special tourist quota at the delhi airport and at the new delhi rail station.there is also a coach service called"indo-canadian" from the airport.they`ve very comfortable busses and the travel with them saves one the hassle of going into the city and the pick up in chandigarh, they drop you at the house door!you`ll have to check about their bookings etc. from some punjabi at your place. as for amritsar the busses are the better option to get to chandigarh have nice time in punjab! malvin PS: talked in indo canadian office in toronto .the person over there told me that they can make the booking through fax.for that they need the following information passenger name flight number time and date of arrival their fax number is 416-651-2013 phone number is 416-651-1084 to send the ticket they need ur fax number also. secondly u can get ticket at delhi also.but then u have to reach radison hotel by ur self.if u go by advance booking then only u are picked from airport otherwise reach hotel by taking ur own taxi. there is no internet booking
