| Narvik | Narvik to the nearest Hurtigruten stop Posted: Mon February 14, 2005 05:04 PM UTC
Hi
I'll be travelling from Kiruna to Narvik by train. Can anyone provide info on where the nearest port is where I can board the Hurtigruten? and how do I get there? Thanks! |

What is said above is correct. The nearest port for Hurtigruten is Harstad and you can reach there by bus in about 2 hours from Narvik. (A bit more if the bus stop in the airport).

Thanks everyone. Seems close enough! Hope there are "feeder" buses from the train station.
I was also informed that if I start my travel on thursday, friday or saturday on the Hurtigruten, I will get 75% discount on my travelticket.

is the 75% discount true? If so, I may take the hurtigruten from Bergen to Alesund and then Alesund to Trondheim, where can I verify that info?

Jasonconga - I'll think these % when you starts on a
certain day is "random", meaning from place B, E, H etc it's those days you get %off, from place C, G, L, P it's other days and so on. You have to chech from the differente departure ports. Eg. 3 years ago the car was FREE on mondays from Bodö. I took the local ferry on monday - very bad weather, ferry had to turn back half way over the fjord. Next day I had to take Hurtigruta, and pay a lot for my tiny car.

If you go to the Hurtigruten website http://www.hurtigruten.no/index.asp and it come on in Norsk, you'll see a "75% rabatt" box - but when you select the English version, it displays a different message. Anyway, I was in touch with this amazingly helpful lady (god bless her)whom I made my booking through. She was so patient with handling all my queries. The id is Renate.Gronvold@ovds.no As I mentioned earlier - it's a weekend offer on your travelticket ie if you start your journey on a Thurs, Fri, Sat, you'll get that offer. Good luck!

Hi Everyone! Thanks for all the info. Yep - we took the bus from Narvik to Harstad. At Narvik, we walked from the train station to the bus station.... there was a slight drizzle and since it wasn't a flat road, and we had 2 big luggages .. it was a bit tough eventhough it was only about 800m. I'd recommend a taxi for anyone who wants to go that way (ie if thay have big luggages!)
It wasn't a direct bus to Harstad. We had to change buses (easy! step off one bus and the other one was waiting for us!!) and since my husband & I were the only 2 passngers in the second bus, he dropped us off right at the doorstep of our hotel. Such wonderful Norwegian service! The journey on the Hurtigruten was wonderful .. the scenery was absolutely breathtaking and we saw the Northern Lights when we were on the ship! Are we lucky or what !! :)
