| Milford Sound | Milford Mariner? Posted: Mon February 14, 2005 01:10 PM UTC
Hello,
We will be in New Zealand in Dec/January, but only for about 9 days. We are hoping to see as much as we can in that time. Has anyone been on or heard anything about the Milford Mariner overnight cruise? Is it early enough in the day that you get to see the sound in daylight?? Any information would be greatly appreciated!! Any other suggestions for must see/do in the South Island are also welcome!! Thanks! |

Hi
No idea of the Milford Mariner. But some suggestiona for the South Island: - Abel Tasman National Park ( see my page) - Golden Bay (see my page) - the (wild) west coast with Punakaiki and the pancake rocks or a walk through native bush - Arthur's Pass - Marlborough Sounds with perhaps Blenheim - Dunedin with the peninsula - Christchurch with Bank's peninsula - and lots more Have fun in NZ aap

Hi more info on Milford mariner can be found here
http://www.realjourneys.co.nz/Main/OvernightCruises/ I'd highly recommend Abel Tasmna also, one of my fave parts of the country and also with many visitors here. The West Coast is also great so maybe you could start in Queenstown and work your way north to Nelson. Cheers Daniel

Don't forget to add:
Mount Cook and also Fox Glacier for a surreal glacier walking experience. Kaikoura for being with the dolphins, Stewart Island and the fabulous sounds of southland

Yes, friends went on an overnight cruise on Milford Sound (though may have been the Red Boats if they offer one/if that is different) and were SO pleased as 1) they really enjoyed it, and 2) doing Milford Sound as a day trip from Queenstown (common tourist day trip) is too long, so they were pleased to only travel one-way each day. You'll love it. Don't know about the time of day, but the days that far south in December/January are quite long, so I can't imagine leaving after dark.
