Sun Valley is a spectacular spot to visit in August. Mt. scenery, rivers - looks a little like Switzerland cause of the forests. You name it, you can do it here in the summer. Tennis, hiking, golfing, river rafting, biking, skate boarding, swimming, fishing, ice skating, camping. Ride the chair lift up to the top of the ski mt. for a great view then hike down or ride the chair down. This is a resort town with lots of restaurants, great shops for any of your outdoor needs - sports wise and beyond. First 2 weeks of August is the free outdoor Sun Valley Symphony. Sit for an hour outside on the grass while the sun sets listening to world class symphony. Or maybe the Rocky Mt. Folk festival will be going on and you'll hear world class blue grass. Arts & craft shows, depending on when you visit. My cousin calls it adult camp because there's so much to do right outside your door. Hope you make it here.

My two boys used to spend most of their time outdoors doing the things I listed before - ice skating at the outdoor rink (skates for rent there), swimming, playing tennis, golfing, fishing (you can rent fly equipment and guides), riding their bikes on the 35 miles of paved bike path (bikes also available to rent),hiking in the mts, horse-back riding. You can take a half-day river rafting trip or visit one of the mt. lakes & rent boats. Good restaurants for boys are: Smoky Mt. Pizza, Warm Springs Ranch (complimentary honey butter scones are fabulous), Irvings Red Hots (hot dog stand in the downtown of Ketchum) Perry's for lunch (great soup and sandwiches), The Kitchen or Rustic Moose for breakfast. For your info the whole area is generically referred to as Sun Valley but Ketchum is the actual town. Sun Valley is the resort area comprising a hotel, inn, restaurants & shops about a mile away from Ketchum. There's a wonderful pond at SV with black swans floating in it. Beautiful place to roam around with them, get an ice cream cone.
Don't know which direction you'll be arriving from (assume you're coming by car) so if from the southeast be sure and stop at Craters of the Moon. If coming from the north the drive from Montana down to SV thru the Salmon River valley is spectacular.
Hope this helps. How long are you going to be in the area? Regards......
