Cachtice Travel Forum

I'm planning a multicounrty trip to Europe over this coming summer and would like to include a trip to the Cachtice Castle ruins as well as Ecsed(The Bathory burial grounds) Im finding it very difficult to locate Ecsed, even more difficult to find a way to get there. Are the burial grounds open to the public? Any help would be appreciated.

ain`t that easy man. first reason: no one is sure where bloody countess` body lies: according to tradition and the chronicle, she was buried in the crypt beneath the church in Cachtice. But archeologist doing a research in late 30`s did not find her body there. It`s common to hear that when you knock on the floor behing the church`s altar, you can hear cavity. But no one dares to dig there because of the state and rareness of the altar.
Some say her body was moved to Ecsed, to family tomb, but where the Ecsed is? There`s a town of Ecsed near Hatvan, Hungary but why she should be moved there? It`s clear Elizabeth was born in Nyirbator, now Hungary and spent her childhood at Ecsed castle, Transsylvania (now area around Romanian-Hungarian border). So, it should be somewhere there. There`s well-known Ecsed moorland nearby Nyirbator, but I`m not sure there`s any castle.... Perhaps some hungarian know more, put the question in Hungary forum.
