| Olympia | Travelling around Peloponnese, Greece Posted: Wed February 2, 2005 09:14 AM UTC
We will be sailing from Bari, Italy to Patras, Greece, and will have a few days to explore enroute to Athens. We'd like to know how you'd recommend travelling around the Peloponnese area, as if we can, we'd love to see Olympia, Monemvasia and Mycenae..
The Diakofto-Kalavryta railway sounds fantastic, too, if we take the train across. Suggestions? |

I would say the best way would be the bus (Ktel).
Patras-Olympia (change busses in Pirgos) is easy. So is Patras-Diakofto where you get the narrow track train up to Kalavryta. Mycenae is easily accessible by bus from Corinthos, Nafplio and Tyrins. I guess (but I am not sure) that the express bus Pirgos-Nafplio that takes the **SOUTHERN ROUTE** of the Peloponessos would take you somewhere near or to Monemvasia (you may have to change busses on the way or do the last stretch by taxi). Here are some sites that have info for the busses: www.ktel.org http://www.eot.gr/1/07/0704/ea0704101.html

Hi, could you tell me how long does it take by bus from Corinth to Mycenae?
Thanks!

I was travelling myself and could not answer before. Hope my answer is not too late.
From Korinthos to Mikines you will have to change busses in Argos (that is the bus Korinthos-Nafplio and get off at Argos). Korinthos-Argos: departure about every hour. Travel time 50 min. In Argos you change to the bus that comes from Nafplio and goes to Mikines. There are four buses a day from Nafplio to Mikines. If I remember correctly there are busses leaving Nafplio for Mikines around 10, 12 and 14:00, arriving about one hour later in Mikines having stopped at the Argos bus station. Argos-Mikines takes about 20 min. You can call the KTEL bus station in Nafplio for specific hours: 27520-27323.
