Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands	What is the situation in Port Blair and the big Andaman? Posted: Tue February 1, 2005 07:10 PM UTC We were planning to go to the Andamans in April. Flying from Chennai to Port Blair. After the Tsunami, I'd like to find out about the situation in the big Andaman. Are tourists allowed ? It is possible to stay at hotels? Is help wanted? In Europe, we hear a lot about Thailand being ready for business, and hoping to see tourists back, but we do not hear about the Andamans. Thank you for information! What is the situation in Port Blair and the big Andaman?

We were planning to go to the Andamans in April. Flying from Chennai to Port Blair. After the Tsunami, I'd like to find out about the situation in the big Andaman.
Are tourists allowed ? It is possible to stay at hotels?
Is help wanted?
In Europe, we hear a lot about Thailand being ready for business, and hoping to see tourists back, but we do not hear about the Andamans.

From everything I hear on the news here, the Andamans was heavily damaged and many of the indigeonous tribal groups have literally been wiped out of existence. There was a heavy loss of life even among the military personnel stationed there. I would seriously reconsider making the trip there at this time. The Andamans is a restricted travel destination anyway and I think it will be some time before they start to recover from the devastation and affects of the tsunami.
