Roughly, not reckoning with possible trafficjams or cartrouble, one can bridge the distance in six hours.

Depends on the car you have. I think with a fast car, like Porsche or BMW you can manage the distance of 800km in 6 hours. If you do not want to drive at a reckless speed it would take you 8 hours.

Thanks for the advice! As a matter of fact, I do have a Porsche (944S), but unfortunately cannot bring it to Deutschland with me! : )

Cheers,

Jay

You can have a stopover in Leipzig to buy a new one!

Remember that the German Autobahn is jammed all the time. "No speedlimit" sounds great...but to get from Munich to Hamburg without a traffic jam is almost impossible, esp. on weekends. The Autobahn München - Nürnberg is especially bad.
A friend of mine drove that route on New Year's and it took him almost 10 hours to get to Hamburg...not so much fun.
Remember, you can go to Austria in only 2 and Italy in 5 hours!
There's also a direct ICE connection Munich - Hamburg, which is about 6 hours.
Is the lure of the Reeperbahn that strong? ;-)

Ha haaaa!! I think I had a little TOO MUCH Reeperbahn last time I went- Yikes!!! I actually have a friend who lives in Hamburg now.

Thanks for the tips on the legendary autobahn. I'd heard it's generally congested...I was hoping the ICE train might be a bit faster- I don't know if it features the same speed as the TGV "bullet trains" in France- I've never rode either.

Thanks again,

Jay Gatsby

Hey good day - good to hear that other countries have motorways (you call them autobahns) that resemble car parks at times!

I just had a look at the web page of the Deutsche Bahn AG and the iCE will take 6 hours for that distance.....not much faster than a Porsche I would say.......but less stressy!
