Arequipa Weekend trip from Lima to Arequipa
Posted: Tue February 1, 2005 03:07 PM UTC
I only have the weekend to make a couple of trips around Peru and I really would like to Colca Canyon while I'm in Peru. There's a 1.5 hour flight from Lima to Arequipa, but I hear it's about a 5 hour journey from Arequipa to the canyon...is it possible for me to make this trip in a weekend? I'm thinking it might be better to go with a day tour, can anyone suggest a company?

Anyone know the cost of the airfare from Lima to Arequipa? Any other info will be greatly appreciated.

The other weekend trip I'm hoping to take is to Iquitos.

Thanks.

Look up flights on www.7lan.com (lan peru website). I'm planning an October trip to Peru so researching these things is what I've been doing for the past month. From what I can see, you probably could do it in a weekend (Fri to Sun). We're going to do it in 3 days, 2 nights (one night in Arequipa, one night in Colca Canyon). Many tour operators seem to offer a similar package so 3 days seem to be about right! Good luck!

Last year I flew for $65 one way, but the fare might be up to $100 each way.

I am not much for tours, but I really enjoyed the 2 day overnight tour from Arequipa. It was $17 and included one breakfast, night stay in Chivay, transportation and guide. Other meals, entrance to the hot springs and entrance to the Canyon national park ($6) were not included. I followed another traveler's recommendation and used Colonial tours whose office is half a block from the plaza in direction of the famous nunnery.
Although a small hike was included it did not happen at the canyon. bob
