| Ubud | Inexpensive Losman? Posted: Mon January 31, 2005 06:27 PM UTC
We're hoping to find a nice but inexpensive losman in Ubud or very close. Have heard the Hibiscus is nice, but can't seem to find it on the web. Any recommendations or ideas? We hope to spend less than $10 night for extended stay. Are there still places for less than $5 night?
Many thanks rob |

That's pretty much the bottom limit.
But you can still find many losmen in that range, especially if you stay long and are ready to pay a monthly (rate) in advance. There are so many budget losmen in Ubud that recommending any particular one makes little sense. Just walk around after arriving there and check out several. Places tucked away down side-roads a bit out of the centre will be quieter, friendlier and cheaper. Forget about booking any in advance!

Stayed last month at a losmen in Monkey Forest Road called Dewi Ayu 1. It's on the right hand side going down Monkey Forest Road, about halfway between the Jalan Dewi Sita and the Monkey Forest and opposite the Ubud Restaurant and Fibra Inn.
It's simple accommodation but very comfortable and quiet. The manager, Gede is very pleasant and extremely helpful. Room rates including breakfast and tax are Rp60,000 (US$6.50) for older rooms nearer the road and Rp80,000 (US$8.50) for newer rooms, further down the property. I'm sure you can negotiate a better price for a longer stay. Have a look at this site for write-up and photos. http://micbali.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=ubu

Here's a link for booking Hibiscus Homestay, but as you'll see the prices are rather inflated.

Don't know if this info is a bit too late... you could be in Ubud already. I have stayed in Wena homestay, Jl Goutama in Ubud town - accessible to all areas around Ubud. Clean and comfortable. 1 double bed with fan and cold showers is only 50,000Rp (less than usd10). The one which is slightly bigger and with hot showers you need to pay 75,000Rp - value for money. The only downside is they have only 4 units in the homestay and usually it's full. You can try your luck. Otherwise, you can just go along Jl Goutama - there are plenty more there.. If you need to view the room and the ambience offered by Wena homestay, take a look at my travelpage on Ubud, under "Hotels & Accomodation". Have fun in Ubud - really nice!
