Atotonilco El Grande is a very short distance (10 km or so) North of the colonial city of San Miguel Allende. It is very easily accessible as the road is well paved. As many tourists as religious worshipers travel there. It is absolutely worth the visit, as the interior chapels are amongst the most splendid I have seen in Mexico (founded by the penitent Father Felipe Neri). Nearby there are thermal springs and other recreational activities.
San Miguel itself is a wonderful colonial city which requires a couple of days., Make sure you head up to the Mirador for some fantastic vistas. You will also encounter the English language in San Miguel as many ex-pat Americans have made their homes there. Sorry no pics available, though if I can find a way to scan my slides I will forward. Good luck
