Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Albany Pay as you go sims?
Posted: Sun January 30, 2005 06:42 AM UTC
Staying with friends in Albany soon and was wondering if it is possible to buy 'pay as you go' sim cards for your mobile. I can phone what would be a local number and get great rates back to the UK via what is technically a calling card. Any advice would be appreciated.

yes there is. T-Mobile has a prepaid sim that you can buy. look on ebay. you can have the number changed to what every area code you'd like. unfortunatly, t-mobile service isnt like what it is in Europe, but its been ok for me so far.

There are several different mobile companies that sell "pre-paid" sims. Suggestions would be Vodafone Australia (www.vodafone.com.au), Optus (www.optus.com.au), or Telstra Mobile (www.telstra.com.au). It's best to check coverage before you buy. I worked for Vodafone Australia in Sydney where we sold starter packs for $30AUD including call credit. Vodafone would offer calling deals back to the UK - $3 for 10 minutes. You can find sims at almost any newsagent and can find mobile shops in any city's shopping centre.
