Ubud Book ahead for late arrival?
Posted: Sat January 29, 2005 03:26 PM UTC
Hi, we're arriving in Denpasar around 9pm and want to head straight up to Ubud, so I have two burning questions!
1) are we likely to find a bemo at that hour (there are 5 of us, by the way) or a taxi? Any suggestions for transport and do we need to book ahead? and...
2) will it be too late to find a losman? I've heard that one is often met by losman operators or touts with photos of their places. I'm guessing it might be 10:30pm or even 11:00pm by the time we hit Ubud, do you suppose there will be a welcoming committee? Or should we book a room ahead of time?
Thanks ever so much!! This is my first time traveling!

Make it easy on yourself. Get a cheap room in Denpasar or Kuta for the night and take a minivan to Ubud in the morning. Why stress about making a late-night connection after your long flight? After all, you're on vacation!

I too think you should change your plans a little, when you get through customs on the outside of the airport there is a window where you organise your taxi, here they have set rates into Kuta, Sanur, Ubud etc, Sanur for example is 50,000 rps and the trip takes around 15 - 20 mins, it is about an hour to Ubud.

So ask the driver to take you to the closest reasonably priced accomodation, stay there the night, next day get up have a leisurly breakfast, do some bargaining for a good price for a taxi to take you to ubud and have him understand you might want to check out a number of places before you decide where you want to stay. I don't know what your price range is or if you want to stay in Ubud or on the outskirts but where ever it is believe me there will be plenty of places to choose in all price ranges. I have stayed in plenty that are about $50 - $60 Aus dollars and are very good, if that is your price range and you want some reccomendations just let me know.

Best wishes, you will enjoy your time there I am sure.

Hey Indoguy, Rp200,000 is kind of expensive for a one-way trip to Ubud! The going rate is about Rp100,000 to Rp120,000 (maximum).

Give yourself a break and quote reasonable rates. You're sure to get more business that way.

i might get someone i know for free anywhere they want to go,...200,000 is not even 20 uero, and i have to provide a car and stuff...im saying take it or leave it...yeh,to pick you up in the nite and take you to ubud and go back my self to kuta coz i live there and get 200 thousand rupiah is worth enough for me! say make me survive for another 3 days!
business is a business, ppl might take you for prices you mentioned about with little hope that you will always use them after!just to go to the touristic area...not all baliness know well about their own land!not all of them like to explore more about their island...anyway...whatever!have fun and take care!
