Hola... My wife and I need to get from Puerto Montt to Bariloche on March 12th and need help finding/considering how to do the trip.

We wanted to take the boat/bus combo ( www.crucedelagos.cl) but it appears they only operate until March 11th.

We also looked into the bus (www.andesmar.com.ar) but we are unable to figure out the time table (where is Puerto Montt listed as a departure point, what is the name of the bus terminal in Puerto Montt).

We also looked into the possibility of flying via LAN Chile, but they do not offer a flight on either of the days we can go (March 11th, 12th). We are even interested if we can arrange a private flight from Puerto Montt to Bariloche.

Any help would be appreciated (websites, names/phone numbers, Tourism contacts, travel agent contacts, etc).

I entered in Andesmar On-line hel and they told me these:

"no figuran los destinos en chile porque como es un servicio compartido con la empresa Tas Choapa y los boletos que se emiten son de un pool de empresas
es por ello que no figura pero contamos con un serv diario cuatro veces a la semana con coches de T Choapa y tres de AAndesmar"

Pupis... What did you end at the Andesmar site for the departure location (they do not list "Puerto Montt", so I'm guessing they list the bus terminal... unfortunetly I don't know the name of any of the terminals in the area). If you can please list the names of the terminals.... thanks, darren

They said they make a joined service with Tas Choapa, which is a bus company in Chile. They gave me that e-mail so you can ask anything there. But in any case, I'm going to Retiro (our terminal bus station in Buenos Aires) next Wednesday because my son is coming back from his vacation on the beach. I can ask them more widely than with an on-line talk . I hope so.

Fresh news for you, Darren. The office in Buenos Aires of AndesMar has told me that:

-- you have to buy your ticket from Puerto Montt to Bariloche ONLY in one office and not through internet, because the web page is only to buy inside Argentina.

-- so, you should buy the tickets in Puerto Montt. Maybe it could be smart to let a tourist agency to have them by the time you arrive to the city.

-- there is only one bus a day from Puerto Montt to Bariloche. It departs the 12/02/05 at 11:00 hours from Chile, and arrives to Bariloche at 17:44 more or less.Other days, may depart at 9:00

-- It costs about 50 argentine pesos.

I just contacted the agency to know if there is a boat doing Cruce de Lagos on march 12th, I will let you know of what I found out.

The price for the crossing is U$D 160 per person, and if you need it booked in advance, I can make the arrangements for you to pay me once you get to Puerto Montt, if that is OK with you.

It's me again!

I just got the response from the agency in charge of the boat crossing, and they said there is a boat departing to Bariloche on the 12th, the cost: U$ 160 per person.

The Itinerary:
(departing from Puerto Montt at 08:00)
- Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas/Petrohue 2 hours by bus
- Petrohue/Peulla 1:40 hrs. by boat
- Peulla/Pto. Frias 2 hrs by bus
- Pto. Frias/Pto. Alegre 20 min. by boat
- Pto. Alegre/Pto Blest 15 min. by bus
- Pto. Blest/Pto. Pañuelo 1:05 hours by boat
- Pto. Pañuelo/Bariloche 30 min. by bus

You should be arriving to Bariloche at 21:30.
