Don't know if this still applies but I made the same journey in 1976. Locals told me there are "Group taxis" i.e. several people join in for the ride to Ismir. Called "Dolmush" (phoenetic spelling). Also can change to Liras in Cesmir. May be buses too. I know there are english lang. websites for this area; I recently found them. Hope this helps. check out my home page - PALS

the bus system in turkey works very well and busses run all the time, so no need to worry.

no worries mate. as mentioned above there are too many dolmush and coaches. if u see the sign post on the windscreen where writes "Izmir" just hold ur hand up and jump into it! however i always hitch from/to cesme-izmir. just a hint "Izmir ne kadar" (read as written) means how much izmir from here. of course as money not the distance:):) take care of the new currency by the way. 1YTL = 1000000 TL which is about 0.80 euro or about £0.35.

good luck. ozhan u.

As written above the bus is the best way to travel, but you have to kids of busses. Direct lines (big busses) and dolmus busses (smaler ones). The dolmus busses stops at each small village and it takes more time to get to Izmri. All the busses stop at Fahrettin Altay Meydani. From there there are thre possibilities to get to the centre.

1. Taxi (expensive)
2. By bus: cross the road and there is a busstop (150 m.)
3. By ferry (Turkish: iskele): walk towards the coast and there you will see the boats. One goes to Karsiyaka/Bostanli, the other to Konak. Take the one to Konak.

I wish you lots of pleasure in Izmir.

Does anyone know the cost of the bus from Cesme to Izmir? And the cost of the ferry from Fahrettin Altay Meydani to Izmir?
