| Brooklyn | What is the best place to stay in Brooklyn? Posted: Sun January 16, 2005 04:40 AM UTC
Hello, I'd like to stay in downtown Brooklyn for about a week. Could someone tell me a good hotel/motel/B&B/inn? I'm looking to spend about $75 - $100 a night.
Also, does anyone know approximately how much it costs by taxi to go from LaGuardia airport to downtown Brooklyn? Thanks very much. Lloyd |

The taxi is... I think 50 dollars from anywhere in the city to LGA.
What would you consider downtown Brooklyn? When you say downtown do you mean city centre or truely down-town? For instance when we say downtown in the city we mean the actual southern part of it but some day downtown meaning the city centre.

Hmm, I guess what I mean by downtown is let's say... "Borough Park" (I'm looking at a map and just throwing that area out). I checked the Laguardia website and they estimate $23-$27 to get to "downtown" Brooklyn. http://www.panynj.gov/aviation/lgataxiframe.html The reason I asked on this forum anyway, is because I believe I would probably get a more accurate response. So what do you think: Are they being real? Thanks again, Lloyd

When the locals mean downtown brooklyn, they are talking about the city centre or the business district area not geographically on the map. In that case that would be around the metrotech area, fulton street mall, surrounded by brooklyn heights, fort greene and possibly around boerum hill and the river.
the easiest way to determine downtown brooklyn is to look at a map and see the neighborhoods close to the brooklyn and manhattan bridge. borough park would not be considered downtown brooklyn.

penpoison , thanks for the reply.
Another matter if you don't mind: how much do you think it would cost for a taxi ride from that area to LaGuardia? Also, how LONG would a transit ride instead take? Thanks, Lloyd

I think it would cost about $25 to $35 and take approximately 1 1/2 hour to 2 hours.

Taxi ride would take considerably less time about 1/2 hour depending on traffic.

There's the MArriott hotel in downtown Brooklyn. Also nice B&B's in neighboring Cobble Hill and Park Slope
