What is the best way to get from Rome to Ancona, and what would we expect to pay. Would then like to get a ferry to Split, what cost and how long. This will be in June
Thanks Annabel |

Hi Annabel,
We did the trip from Rome to Ancona last year by rail from Terminii station in Rome to Ancona direct. Its dead easy to get the tickets at the Terminii station in English so long as you have the timetable from the web site www.trenitalia.it and you know precisely which train you want. Be very careful about security at Terminii station. We did not have trouble but many people do. I can remember the cost of the ticket but it was very cheap compared with the British railways. Regards, Guy

Hey Annabel,
I did Rome to Ancona on a train. It was way easy. No need to buy ticket in advance since it didnt seem to be a very busy route. The trains leave often and are very reasonable. Enjoy!

Hi Annabel!
Trains are very frequent, and it takes more than 3 hrs. Ticket is about 14 with simple economic train (nearly 4 hrs), and about 30 Euros with Eurostar (3.20 hrs). Then, simply take the bus to the port, outside the station, or even the train (to Ancona Marittima). They both take 5 minutes. The ferry to Split is usually a overnight ferry, leaving at 22, and arriving at about 7 in the morning. A comfortable seat, flexible, where you can also sleep is about 45 Euros. Hope you have a good time there. In case you'd like to visit Ancona's city centre, I'll be very happy to show you that, and share a glass of wine with you. It's a nice way to "prepare" to cross the Adriatic Sea. Ciao! Angelo
