| Trondheim | Trondheim in March Posted: Fri January 14, 2005 09:00 PM UTC
Hello,
Myself and a few friends will be travelling to Trondheim in March. We've looked into some different accomodations and the Trondheim Leilighetshotell/Trondheim Apartment Hotel looks quite appealing. However, I'd like to know if anyone has any feedback on this place? How close to the city centre is it? Is it a decent place to stay? Any great things about it? Any horror stories? Also, is the bar and club scene very active this time of the year? I know that we've just missed the International Student Festival, so does the town go back into a deep winter's sleep this time of year? What nights are the bars and clubs particularly active? The only other reservation I have is that we're all Americans and are a bit concerned about the reception that we'll get due to public feelings about the Bush administration, Iraq, etc. We're all pretty non-political easygoing people just looking to explore the world and make new friends. Will the good residents of Trondheim welcome us or shun us and throw drinks in our faces? *laughing* Any feedback on Trondheim tips and recommendations would be much appreciated. |

As long as you are not sweedish, you'll be fine!
But seriously, if you want the people to think well of you, show them that the stereotype is not applicable in your case. Learn something about their country, history, culture, language. Have something intelligent to say about the political situation that is not defensive or inflamatory (others can make this hard for you I know - people tend to attack the US because its such a big target, but try ). Remember, people tend to apply stereotypes only in the absence of other information. Do your bit to help all of us improve our perceptions of USAmericans. Regarding throwing drinks in your faces. Alcohol is too expensive to waste in Norway

Here is a Swede who survived Trondheim! :))) It is a great place.
How long are you staying? If long enough, you could catch the local train to Åre in Sweden. A World Cup ski resort with plenty of night life that time of year. Stay a night or two and then return to Norway.

PS. It's a very scenic rail journey, along the old "pilgrimage way" for Swedes on their way to Trondheim's Nidaros Cathedral.
