| Cable Beach | Radisson Cable Beach Resort Posted: Fri January 14, 2005 05:42 PM UTC
My husband and I will be spending a week at the Radisson Cable Beach Resort in April. We are attending our friends' wedding there. Does anyone have any sample menus of the restaurants at this resort? We are staying all inclusive and would like to try to decide ahead of time where we would enjoy eating. Also, what is the best mode of transportation to get to downtown Nassau? Is visiting Paradise Island worth it? Will I be able to walk to the Straw Market from the resort? Does my husband really need to bring a "jacket" to get into the casino at night?

1. A jitney (a public bus) or a taxi to get downtown
2. Walk is too far to Straw Market 3. No jacket

We have stayed many times at the Rad. You might enjoy Amici for Italian food and The Forge is fun. You sit around a "cooking table with about six to eight other people, all strangers at the beginning, but friends at the end of the meal. You cook your dinner over a communal cooktop, and it's lots of fun. You can take the local bus to downtown. It's not the fastest way,but fun all the same. Go and visit Atlantis on Paradise Island. You get a tour for 25 dollars each. Sounds like a lot, but well worth it to see the fabulous aquariums and "the Dig". The Straw Market is right in downtown, so is to far to walk from the Rad. However you can visit Atlantis and then take the ferry back across the harbour for 3 dollars and it will let you off at the Straw Market. You then just hop a bus back to the hotel. The Crystal Palace casino next door to the Rad is very casual. No jackets are needed, however the casino at Atlantis is a little more dressy, but he can still get away without a jacket. Any other questions just e-mail me direct. Carolyn

My wife and I just returned from the Radisson and we found the food to be disgusting. We were not on an all inclusive so we only ate there a couple of times. If you can try to get out of the meal plan, I would do so. The food was better on the plane and because gratuities are automatically charged by the hotel service was as bad as the food. (With guaranteed tips the servers has no incentive to not be arrogant and rude.) Jitneys, public buses are $1.00 and convenient. My wife and I had no problem walking to the straw market. If you do eat off property go to Cafe Matisse, Provence and Zio Gigi. The later was by far the best food we found. It is on Paradise Island but not in the Atlantis. It is in a small mall called Hurricane Plaza. Also, don't be afraid to go to what the locals call "fish fry". This is not a restaurant but actually a row of restaurants and it really is where the locals eat.

People need to understand something. The aAtlantis is for those who have ALOtT of money to spend. The Atlantis has the BEST of everything on the Island, Islands if you want to get technical. The Food at the Raddison is horrible. The resterants are not nice. You would like Chez Willie on West Bay Street, Conch Fritters also on West Bay Street. Then there is the Atlantis. All of their restarants are good some better than other depending on price. The buffets are Seagrapes (good), Watercrest (i think), Marketplace (GREAT). You can get their on a bus (jitney) $1.00. The Hotel is really something to see. Paradise Island is worth the trip, you can get there by jitney. You will NOT be able to walk from the Raddison to the straw market. Take the jitney. If you like "knockoffs" (replica handbags Louis Vuitton etc) They are in addition the the wonderful straw works and island souveineers. I personally am disgusted at the fake Louis Vuitton hanging with a straw bad (Just letting you know in case you liked these). I dont know about the casino because locals arent allowed to gamble.

The Radisson is not too far away from downtown but you do need transportation there, there are jitneys (mini buses) that take you there for a 1.00 and it takes anywhere from 5-10 min depending on the p/u points/amount of people, dont go at busy times!! You can stuck in traffic, and you'll hope that you got on the a/c bus!!
The Rad has a beautiful beach, and to some people they think that the all-incl is a good deal,I guess it depends. My husband and I never stay in the hotel long, we are always out exploring. The food at the resorts,is never as good as the local food places!! and it usually lacks the atmosphere of them too. You can get a list of the names of the rest from the rad online info, then google the rest and get the menu info and samples. Paradise Island is definately a must see, but just once. Unless you're staying there. The water, harbors, boats, and architecture of The Atlantis is amazing!! And its nice to see for the afternoon. There is a mini straw market across the street from the Nassau beach hotel and the Wyndham, which is next to your hotel, if you dont feel like going downtown some days, they have the same things, just less quantity, but the large one downtown is nice because you see the town, cruise ships, and etc. Jackets not enforced really. The big casino on cable beach, is next to you-casual. The one at Atlantis is more dressy.

sorry, in addition please do what one of the people suggested in the forum, go to the fish fry by the beach,it's right before you go downtown. Theres men fishing for the fish and lobster, right there and its amazing no gear!! and then you can buy it and have the local restaurants/stalls at the fish fry cook it!! It's an outdoor market with various types of fresh Bahamian food and sometimes music and activities on the weekends.
Let me know how the wedding is at the Rad, I am also going again this summer. for a wedding there.
