Hi!
Hiking boots/runner shoes would be fine for the Bako & long house trip. Beach sandal should come in handy for the boat ride to Bako NP and along the river (if any) for the long house stay. -m-

i recommend strapped sandals simply because it is easier once you reach bako national park, you have to walk about 100m from the boat to the shore...on muddy banks.
fortunately you can wash your feet once you reached the park station. and as for the longhouse, you can wear sandals or hiking boots. it doesn't matter really but I find sandals more convenient as sometimes you go to the river, swim or walk among the plantations. oohh.....don't forget to spot the bearded wild boar at the bako national park...it is quite a curious animal...

i forgot to add....insect repellant is very, very important.
those mosquitoes are very annoying and persistent. if you are going without a guide, don't forget to spot the probocis monkeys which are indigeneous to Borneo only. the monkeys can be found along the path at the beach, eastward (face the beach) from the park station. they stay near mangrove swamps and rivers and hence do not venture much into the jungle. so if you walk along the beach towards the east, you should spot them easily enough within 5 mins.
