Plan to take the four day Salar de Uyuni tour, and want to know if anyone can recommend a good tour operator, as i hear the quality can differ greatly!

hi, the tour operator that i can recommend is the one that i took. the name is JULIET TOURS. the reason because, some of my friends recommended me this tour operator as well, besides, that i`ve read on the lonely planet guide and i found its name there.
so if you wanna take this go ahead. the owner is julieta so you can keep in touch with her. (she is really kind).
while the tour everything went great!!! all my partners and me enjoined the tour...you can see the pics that i`ve taken at my uyuni`s page.
anyway, hope to be helpful...
marce.

Doc, my overall tour was through Fremen Tours. They used Colque Tours in Uyuni for the four day, 4WD tour of southern Bolivia. They have Toyota Land Cruisers. If things are busy, there will be 6 people (plus the driver) per vehicle and also per room at night. We had four counting my guide. The driver did not speak English but everyone else but me spoke Spanish and English, so no problem. Colque's quarters at Chuvica were quite nice but the "rough quarters" at Laguna Colorado were as advertised. Colque's food was good and there was plenty for everyone. I would definitely recommend them. You might want to take a look at my Bolivia travelogues. Three of them are about the 4WD trip.

Yes. I used Crillon Tours, out of Boliva. You can also go through Eco Adventures in the S.F>Bay area, who can setup everything in So.America with Crillon Tours. They took us all over Boliva. My guide was Ivan, and the driver was Oscar. They were great.

Hi, I was just reading comments about Juliet Tours because I along with 5 Isralie girls had a pretty bad time with them. Marcello15 is a tour operator and has ties with Juliet Tours. You can find him on www.couchsurfing.com
I booked the 3 day Salar de Uyuni with 2 English guys and was told we would be with 3 girls from Australia and England and would have a good/newish 4x4. We were also told the route we would take is different to the other tours and wouldnt follow the huge convoy, but they were all lies to get us to buy their tour.
I was split up from my English friends and put with 5 Isralie girls, they were really nice to be with but when you book a tour with people, you expect to be with them.
Our very unsafe 4x4 had a major steering problem which at speeds between around 30km and 70kms per hour the steering wheel would shake violently while the driver tried to fight it, and the whole car vibrated. It is a good recipe for an accident, not to mention the other faults. After lunch on the first day we had a flat tyre which took hours to fix by the incompitent and angry/unfriendly guide. We constantly got flat tyres which caused us to miss at least one site a day.
All us passengers were so pissed off with the driver there was tension the whole trip. He got drunk the first and second night and so we missed out on the promissed sunrises.
Dont be fooled by the people in Juliet Tours office, they will tell you exactly what you want to hear to get your money. When they have your money they change for the worse.
I hope you have a good tour, there are alot to choose from. Try checking out Rating Bolivia on the main street in Uyuni, they have feedback from travellers about tours etc.

hey chris! i donīt know why you mention my name + iīm a member on couch surfing in your comment that youīve posted. why? have we ever met? i even donīt know you. i did the tour with JULIET TOURS in 2004. in that time they were ok. My travel mates agnes and kandid from switzerland, vivian and olivier from france, and tomoko from japan did not have any trouble + my adventure there was really good. but iīm not a tour operator there. where does it say? donīt be a lier... come on! be careful what you say...
is ok that you say that JULIET TOURS operator is BAD. actually, i donīt know anything about them, if they are still good or bad. if you wanna say that they are bad you just have to mention in your TIPS. PUT a bad comment. or maybe here at the forum but why you have to mention my name?... so people who read your tip will be prevent and NOT to take the tour with JULIET TOURS..you will be hepful in that matter
so, please..i wouldnīt like to hear anything about me again..that matter is just you and JULIET TOURS. not me!
thanks
