I will be in Poland in June 2005.
I will be visiting Warsaw, Kielce, Krakow, Zakopane and Poznan. I have never heard of Kielce before and was wondering what there is to do there and more importantly where to stay? Anybody know this place? |

Hey,
Kielce is a pleasant, medium sized city in the Swietokrzyskie region. There are quite many interesting historical monuments around the city, in nearby towns and villages, as well as Swietokrzyski National Park and some naural wonders (like "Raj" - Paradise cave). You may find most of details on the internet. Happy trails, Marcin

I stayed at Hotel Bristol, ul Kapitulna. Around the corner from the pedestrian walkway Sienkiewicza. A good restaurant and close to another Piwnica Pod Feniksem. A pleasant day trip: bus to Swietokrzyki National Park, visit Abbey and museum there, and hike downhill to the village Nowa Slupia. Watch iron making 2AD style at museum. Bus back. Ortake other hiking trails in the hill top park.

Sorry - I've never heard of Kielce either.
BUT if you are going to Zakopane and have some time to spare, I can really recommend exploring the local area. It is very beautiful. I spent New Year in the village of Bialka Tatrzanska - about 20km North of Zakopane. Its sometimes good to get away from the towns and into a really traditional farming village. We stayed in really beautiful self-catering apartments - they are newly but build in the traditional Highland style - all wood and a-frame. The house has 5 apartments and the prices varied between 300 and 500 zlotys per night depending on whether they were 1, 2 or 3 bedrooms. The price included firewood for the open log fires, use of the basement club room and the sauna. The views of the mountains are spectacular and there is a regular mini-bus into Zakopane. The local restaurants are great and we also ate in a nearby b&b. www.tatra-apartments.com
