Kanchanaburi Best way to get from Bangkok to Tiger Temple in Kanchanburi
Posted: Fri January 7, 2005 10:16 AM UTC
Can someone please tell me the best way to get from Bangkok to the Tiger Temple in Kanchanburi. How much will it cost and how long will it take. How long can I stay at the Tiger Temple. If I have to stay overnight where is the best place to stay. Also what will the weather be like in late August early September.
Thank you.

Hi this is second hand ifno form my 2 sisters and mother who all went in July 04. They caught the local bus from BKK to Kanchanaburri when they got off there were plenty of drivers waiting. there were 4 of them and I am almost certain between them they paid the driver 800bt to take them aroudnd Kanchanaburri then onto the Tiger Temple. I am pretty sure it only opens in the PM for a short tim they said there were only 2 other peole when they went. They returned to BKK the same day again on the local bus.
hope this is helpful.

If you want to travel the scenic route and experience the "locals way of life" then suggest you take the train to Kanchanaburi.

For more information on the "Tiger Temple" suggest you to visit the homepage of the "Tiger Temple" (http://www.boonheng.com/indexeng.htm# ) and you can download the brochure they have in English (download time will depend on your internet speed. please be patient!).

There is really no need to stay over night in Kanchanaburi as you can organize a day trip.

If you need more info., drop me a line and I would be glad to help out!

Tiger temple is 47 km north of Kanchanaburri.
See previous answer for how to get to Kanchanaburri.
There are trips from BKK but they are a bit rushed.
All the guesthouses in Kan do a trip, cost is 150 baht they go late afternoon 3.00 pm after the tigers have been fed and are sleepy, don't wear red and no perfume. Be careful there is a 200 baht charge at the temple, I was in Kan July 2005 and rumour was the price was going up to 500.
You can get to the temple by local bus but I don't know the number, cost would be about 20 baht but tediously slow.
You could rent a motorbike for about 200 a day.
If you stay in Kanchanaburri I strongly recommend a trip to Erawan falls. You can take a trip , bus or rent a motorbike. There is a 200 baht charge as it is a National park (trips usually include the charge).

We were in Kanchanaburi last October for our honeymoon and visited the Tiger Temple on a last minute decision (we hadn't realised it was so close!). We got there in the early afternoon and spent maybe a couple of hours there but we could have spent longer...there was no time limit although I don't know what time the place closed. We spent almost the whole time at the tigers and patted them maybe 3 or 4 times each (each time only one person at a time can go in with a worker/helper and only for a certain period of time). We were lucky since there were only 10 - 15 people there the whole time we were there. :)

I can totally recommend going though and if you want to check out my photos go to my Kanchanaburi page. :)
