Tarragona Travel Forum

My Family and I are holidaying in Tarragona from 18th October 02 and would like to know of unusual and historical places to visit. Castles, gardens houses towns caves etc. We will have our own car and do not mind travelling, after all, we are driving there from England. We have been here before, about 5 years ago but many things must have changed. Any new information would be most welcome.

In Tarragona itself is quite a lot to see, such as the Roman amphitheater, forum Romanum, castle,... It's all pretty easy to find: there are numerous directions. In the area around Tarragona you'll find a lot of tourist-spots, such as Salou, Cambrils, La Pineda,.. Intreresting for stolling along the beach, looking at the markets in the eveing, perhaps an aquatic park (La Pineda). I haven't seen too many historical sites or caves,..., but I'm sure there's a fine tourist office in Tarragona!

Tarragona itself has a lot to visit, basically from Roman period (20 centuries ago).
I don't recommend any marina area, because of the weather, because are crowded places and because of the awfull landscape. Off the beaten path, you should go to Reus (good modernisme buildings), info (not english) and pictures in www.reus.net/turisme/rutadelmodernisme/laruta.html. Other unforgettable places are Poblet and Santes Creus (monestries) both at 40 km. from Tarragona and very close (50 km) one to each other. How to arrive: go to www.viamichelin.com, select maps and ask for "poblet" and "santes creus" in spain and that's all !!

Castillo de Tamarit (Tamarit Castle) 11 kmts north coast from Tarragona. Beautiful place and lovely small beach.
