| Guadalajara | Directions from Guadlajara to Acapulco Posted: Tue January 4, 2005 09:36 PM UTC
Does anyone know a website that can give me driving directions from Guadalajara to Acapulco? How long would it take driving there and would it be more affordable to rent a car for the weekend or take a bus? I will be in Guadalajara for 6 weeks and I will have my weekends free--- where else is a fun place to visit (how far is Cabo San Lucas)-- any good places to salsa dance?

It's a short day down to Acapulco...if you drive you can go through Mexico City (which I wouldn't do on a bet) or down to Colima and then south along the coast. Bus will be cheaper than rent a car.
I am not sure of time to Aca, but it's around 4 hours down to Puerto Vallarta. You can go through Tequila on the way if you take the Tepic road. About 5 hours on a bus, very cheap. Cabo has the problem of being on the other side of a large body of water. There is a ferry that takes overnight to get to La Paz, three hours to Cabo by bus. Yes, there are places to dance in Guadalajara, it's a very large city.

Hello,
Go to the Secretaria de Comunicaciones y Transportes web site : http://portal.sct.gob.mx/SctPortal/appmanager/Port They have excellent pdf maps of all Mexico states. Pick your own route, print the maps and bring them with you. That's what I do when I travel by car in Mexico. If you decide to rent a car, rent it at a city location as oppossed to the airport so you can get much better rates. Check the seccion amarilla for the listings of in-city rental car companies. They normally have rates that include everything, free km, insurance, taxes, etc. Taking a bus would take longer to get to your destination and you don't have the freedom to stop wherever you want. But then, renting may be more expensive. Pros and cons to each way. Finally, there are quite a few salsa places in GDL, like tropigala check the seccion amarilla or ask at the hotel or taxi driver. I hope this helps. Miguel
