Karachi Western Women working in Karachi
Posted: Tue January 4, 2005 06:20 AM UTC
We're on the point of getting a contract in Karachi which will involve spending 4- 5 months working with a fairly international team of people in Karachi.
Can anybody advise if there are any problems with Western women working in Karachi? I've read a fair amount about dress, etc. but is general Western business attire (i.e. long pants, blouses, etc) acceptable (we'll be working with a bank).
Thanks!

Yes the first sign of working in Karachi does ring bells for westerners but let me assure you its not that bad. There are specific areas which you should avoid going to, its like men in those areas dont exactly expect women to wear skimpy clothes, yes long pants, blouses are in some areas considered skimpy. Anyways living in upscale areas like Clifton and Defence are very safe and sound. Western attires are adorned by locals in these areas and if you restrict your movement to these areas it would be no problems at all. I am a journalist aged living in Clifton and it feels great, you have to see to expereince after all its not that bad. If you need any further help drop me a line at contest@mediapk.com. Good Luck!

Hello,

Last semester in my MBA class, I have completed comparison of Russian and US busines culture. I have the entire 35 pages paper that talks about dress, business conduct and provides further resources.

If you are interested, please let me know @ kestutis@dzukas.com. I would be glad to forward it to you.

All US citizens need a visa. Tourist visa is valid for 30days and allows you to enter/exit country once. To obtain visa you need:
1 photo (passport size)
1 visa support letter ($30 on the internet)
1 visa application
1 consular fee ($100 cheapest - 14 business days processing)
2 shippiing labels to and from the consulate

IIn addition, I offer various reputable and leading travel agencies, who assist you handling visa legalities. They offer discounts for my clients.
