Cape Town - worth a detour ?
Posted: Sun January 2, 2005 11:20 PM UTC
My husband and I are travelling to Botswana in April to stay with a friend. We'll be there for 3/4 weeks and will have time to see a bit more - would a trip to Cape Town be a good idea ? I've always fancied it but would also like to see Victoria Falls - not sure if we could do both. Our flights are from London to Jo'burg so we would probably get internal flights to Cape Town if we were going. Any advice appreciated !

Absolutely!!! My husband & I were there 4 years ago, it was incredible. It was beautiful, lots to see and do - Table Mountain, botanical gardens, a day trip to the Cape driving along the Indian Ocean, the prison where Mandela was held. Great restaurants, and the dollar may actually be worth something there. Another beautiful trip not far from Cape Town was to the wine region of Franschook & Stellenboch - spend a night or 2 in one of the beautiful inns. We also did a safari in Kruger National Park - also a must if you are not doing it in Botswana. Happy to answer more questions, but definitely plan to add this to your itinerary.

Well I have to agree with SheriZB , Cape Town personally is a must see. You welcome to have a look at some of the pics I post on the VT the site about the Cape. The exchange rate between the Pound and the Rand is about R11 for a Pound so everything will probably seem very cheap for you.

If you would like more info re Cape Town have a look at my homepage... she is magnificent! :)

I have tons more info and pics if you are interested. (Homepage is more Fish Hoek-based, but writes alot about what there is to see and do on the Cape peninsula).

Kruger Park. WOW. Need I say more? You can get a flight direct there to Skukuza, the main camp.

If you need flights from Jhb to Cpt try Kulula.com and 1time. (www.1time.aero). They have very reasonable flights and out of season it is even cheaper. They don't serve meals and drinks ( you can buy on the flight) but for the amount you save you can treat yourself to a great meal at one of the Waterfront's nice restaurants.

I have a lot of info on Cape town and areas around there on my homepage if you want to have a look.

Cape Town is an amazing place it has a lot to offer, it is so diverse. But I've been to Vic Falls and it also so amazing and there is a lot to offer, but because you've been to Botswana before hand, I'd go to Cape Town
