| Alexandroupolis | Transportation to Istanbul Posted: Sun January 2, 2005 12:23 AM UTC
Any ideas on how to get to Istanbul from Greek borders?
Greek national railways folow a long route which needs about 10hours! Are there any buses with direct connection? And if yes how can I find info about them (maybe booking in advance) Is driving safe in that part of Turkey? |

I know there's a bus from Alexandroupolis to Istanbul, it leaves from the Alexandroupolis train station and takes about 7-8 hours. Sorry I don't have any current schedule or fare information.

The direct bus leaves early in the morning, takes some 4 to 5 hours, more only if there are delays in the border passing.
Driving in European Turkey is relatively safe, except from busy summer months, when the narrow turkish motorways are full of rushy turkish emigrants ... There are trains from Alex as well, you have to change in the border and estimate 3 hours extra... Good luck, I could enquire ab bus timetables when your plans are more clear!
