Sri Lanka Triton Hotel, Ahungalla
Posted: Sat January 1, 2005 01:49 PM UTC
We go married at the Triton in November 2002, and have great memories of our day and all the staff that added to our overall experience greatly. In light of the terrible recent events in Asia, does anyone have any information on the status of the hotel and any casualties or damage? Any information at all would be great.

I also have wonderful memories of the Triton and it`s staff, following 2 holidays there. I have looked on the Aitken Spence website and sadly it has been badly damaged. I don`t know anything about the staff, but I hope they are all safe.

I visited the Triton in Ahungalla six months ago, and had a wonderful holiday. I have spoken to a member of staff, Chamal de Silva, and unfortunately, the ground floor has been destroyed. He says that all guests and staff on duty were OK . I hope the hotel is up and running shortly, as the staff don't have jobs now, and Chamal's house and village have been completely flattened. When I spoke to him he was sheltering in a temple........

I was at the Triton Hotel until 23 December 2004 when our holiday ended. I can't believe it was destroyed so soon after and that we escaped the carnage.

I am so worried about the staff as I know not many Sri Lankans can swim. What about the security man who sat on the beach, the sunbed attendants and the two lovely ladies who served the tea by the pool?

Does anyone reading this know anything about any of the staff?

A friend had managed to contacy the police station in Ahungalla and as well as reasuring us about the safety of our friends (another de Silva - Pathmasiri and his wife Hema manohavie, his two boys and two little girls) he also told us that Baby Nona the elephant was safe. I don't know if this is the same elephant that your daughter remembers as we were visiting the Triton last March.
