GAP Classic Antarctica trip - Jan. 18th
Posted: Thu December 30, 2004 12:53 AM UTC
Just curious if anyone on this page is going on Jan. 18th.

I see where there are a couple others who are going in February and some who went last November.

I am getting very excited and a little nervous. I heard the Drake passage can be quite bad at times.

By the way..... if anyone who has been there has a lodging suggestion in Ushuaia.... it would be greatly appreciated! I am just looking for something moderate. THANKS!

I went down that way in Jan 01 and the sea was so flat we renamed the Drake Passage as the Drake Lake. It was difficult to imagine how it was reknowned as being one of the most treacherous pieces of ocean in the world.
You're in for a fantastic trip and I'm envious that I'm not going again this year.
Safe travels,
Peter

We cruised Antarctica in Dec 03. Also was fortunate to experience the Drake Lake, but best to be prepared with patch, Bonine, Dramamine, just in case.... We made six landings on the continent and Peninsula and also able to make landing at Cape Horn (the weather gods smiled) on the way to the Chilean Fjords ending in Santiago.

I am also envious - it was truly the trip of a lifetime - although we are already planning to do it again!!

Looking forward to your trip report!
